COPTIC WOMEN

// illustration & typography

[Dimensions: 4 x 6 in]

Copt {/ˈkäpt/} - a member of Egypt's indigenous Christian ethnoreligious community, predominantly of the Coptic Orthodox Church.

The church is an integral part of the Coptic culture. However, as I grew up I began to realize the prevalance of sexism rooted within the culture. Being from a strict and traditional culture means people have been too afraid to speak up about the unequal treatment of men versus women in my church and culture. This zine is a compilation of my own experiences in the church, as well as that of my good friends. This was created in hopes of not just creating change but healing as well.
